Enate Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Enate has been my favourite winery since we picked up a bottle in the Barcelona market from one of those wine shops on the perimeter. I’ll list my all time favourite as soon as I try it again, however just last week I got a chance to sample the Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon 2003. What a fantastic wine, in the €14 region it can be pretty pricy for the casual drinker, however, if you want to try an upmarket wine with that vintage taste that goes down smoothly as a true Cabernet Sauvignon does. This is the one to buy.

Grape Variety : Cabernet Sauvignon

Producer : Enate

Region : Spain – Somontano

Year : 2003

Size : 75cl

Barbi Brunello di Montalcino 1996

Another vintage wine we opened during New Years Eve 2009-2010.  I would like to have written more about this wine, expressing the flavours, and intoxicating smells… Unfortunately this won’t be the case due to the lateness of the evening, and the previous alcohol dulling the memories.  One thing I can say for certain is that:

A. it was delicious and…

B. Once you’ve acquired a taste for vintage wines, it can be highly addictive.  Just make sure you have someone around you that knows what their buying.

Ferreira Late Bottled Vintage Port 1999

Arriving in a wooden box last Christmas, we opened this for New Years Eve 2009-2010.  Enjoying our yearly Xmas and New Years tradition of decanting a nice bottle of port and passing it around the table to your left, while never letting the decanter to rest until it’s empty, also not forgetting that you have to pour with your right and not switch hands at any point.

Drunken holiday traditions aside, this is the kind of port that always makes me salivate, ruby red, with a nice dry, sweet, oaky finish.  If anyone ever wants to know what to bring for the holidays, bring one of these… the older the better.
